Before Construction Begins
The purpose of the current Mass Transit-Expressway Project Linking Bangkok and Thonburi is to study the proposed plan's feasibility and suitability in terms of engineering, and traffic, economics, finance and investment. The project has also conducted an environmental impact assessment and completed a thorough review of the project design. This is to ensure that the desired goals are achieved and the best interests of the public are served.

Key Design Concepts
In designing the new project, planners have kept the needs of users foremost in mind, with special focus on the following:
- Ease and convenience, Design and operation of the new expressway will ensure that driving is smooth and easy. And because construction will be quick and take place in stages, impact to the public will be minimal, with as few disruptions to regular train and river traffic as possible. The new rail service will feature a range of conveniences designed to respond to the passengers' every need, including elevators, escalators, pedestrian tunnels, and shops, as well as special facilities for the handicapped.
- Safety . The route is essentially straight, with banked on and off ramps to accommodate all driving conditions. The train bed is covered with gravel to give passengers a smooth, comfortable ride, and reduce noise and vibration when the train is in motion.
- Strength and durability . Made of compressed concrete for strength and durability, the structure is guaranteed to withstand the estimated volume of traffic.
- Stylishness . The structure will have a sleek, modern look, in line with prevailing trends in contemporary international architecture. It will blend in harmoniously with its immediate surroundings to produce a strong visual appeal.
- Perfect Integration of Form and Function. The project will make optimal use of space, accommodating all three transit systems, and keep construction and maintenance costs to a minimum.
- Cool & Shady . The entire route will be beautifully landscaped, with occasional sports facilities to promote a better quality of life for people on both sides of the river.
